The history
The topaz has been known for at least 2000 years and it was noted by the Greeks as the stone of strength. Its exotic figure served as a symbol of beauty and splendour, as well as protection against injury. It is the birthstone for November.
Derivation
From Topazos, a small island in the Red Sea, where the Romans obtained a stone which they called by this name.
